When I found out I was gluten-intolerant in 2007, my health improved but a lot had to change! The new dietary restrictions were confusing and difficult, and I felt like I had been sentenced to a life of fried rice and corn tortillas. One of the hardest things was no longer being able to drink regular beer, which is often made with Barley, a grain that includes gluten.
Three years later, my diet is as (or more!) diverse than anyone who can eat gluten, and I have seen a rise in gluten free beers in the market. I have even been able to hold my wedding at a brewery (that includes gluten free beer in its repertoire). This blog is here to help navigate the world of gluten free beer and brewing. I also hope that it will help raise the profile of beers brewed with ingredients such as rice and sorgum as well as give those who can't eat gluten hope that you CAN still go to the bar, grab a beer, and relax with friends.
If you have any questions about life with gluten intolerance, beer recommendations, or are a brewery and want help developing the best tasting gluten free beer ever (I promise I can help, I've had them all!) please feel free to drop me a line at glutenfreebeerblog (at) gmail (dot) com.
